Las Vegas, NV – Today, the Nevada Police Union (NPU) endorsed Senator Catherine Cortez Masto’s re-election campaign. NPU represents approximately 700 Category 1 state police officers, including hundreds of law enforcement officers serving as highway patrol troopers, capitol and university police, parole and probation officers, fire marshalls, detectives, game wardens, park rangers, and dispatchers.

“Every day our officers put on their uniforms and protect our communities – and I have been proud to fight for them,” said Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. “Both as Nevada’s attorney general and in the Senate, I have worked with law enforcement to ensure our officers have the resources they need to keep our communities safe. I’m honored to have the support of the Nevada Police Union, and I look forward to continuing to work together to put Nevadans first.”

“The Nevada Police Union stands with Senator Catherine Cortez Masto because she stands up for Nevada police,” said Dan Gordon, president of Nevada Police Union. “Senator Cortez Masto understands the critical needs of our peace officers and is actively working to ensure we have what we need to do our jobs every day. She is solutions-focused and has a record of crossing the aisle to deliver resources for the police officers who serve our state, and that’s why we’re with her.”

The former top law enforcement official in Nevada, Cortez Masto has been a leading advocate in the Senate for police officers. She has been endorsed by the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers and Nevada Law Enforcement Coalition, representing 19 law enforcement and public safety unions in Nevada and thousands of officers across the state, and Police Chief Jason Soto – his first-ever Democratic endorsement.

During her time as attorney general, Cortez Masto “developed a reputation as a crusader against domestic violence and sex trafficking,” per the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and she recently led a bipartisan push to boost police funding, securing the most federal dollars for local law enforcement in over a decade. Both Donald Trump and Joe Biden have signed Cortez Masto’s bills to support the police, including her legislation to combat the epidemic of law enforcement suicide and her COPS Counseling Act.
