Las Vegas, NV – The Cortez Masto campaign released the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade: “This race will determine the future of women’s reproductive rights in Nevada and across the country,” said Cortez Masto campaign spokesman Josh Marcus-Blank. “Throughout her career, Senator Cortez Masto has consistently fought to protect a woman’s right to choose, standing with the 70% of Nevadans who support women’s reproductive freedoms. Her opponent, Adam Laxalt, would be an automatic vote for a federal abortion ban and supports overturning Nevada’s state-level abortion protections. Those are the stakes of this race.” Nearly 70% of Nevadans support a woman’s right to choose, and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has led efforts in the Senate to protect women and their access to health care. She has consistently called to safeguard women’s reproductive rights, rallying with Nevadans in Reno and vowing to fight a federal abortion ban. Adam Laxalt, her opponent, called the Supreme Court’s draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade a “historic victory” and said he would support overturning Nevada’s abortion protections with a strict state-level ban. As Nevada’s attorney general, Laxalt signed onto multiple legal efforts to roll back abortion access and supported efforts to limit access to birth control. |
