Las Vegas, NV – Former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on Cinco De Mayo:
“Today is a day to commemorate not just the Mexican Army’s victory over the French, but to celebrate the vast contributions Mexican Americans have made to our country. My grandfather immigrated to this country from Chihuahua, Mexico. It was through his hard work, and the hard work of my parents, that my sister and I were the first in our family to go to college. As we celebrate Cinco De Mayo, let’s remember that there is far more that unites us as a country than divides us.
“Unfortunately, the presumptive Republican nominee for President, Donald Trump, has used hateful rhetoric to demagogue immigrants and attack the citizenship of American children born to immigrant families. As President he would end DACA and DAPA, and has called Mexicans ‘rapists’ and 'drug dealers.’ I am disappointed that instead of denouncing Donald Trump and his policies, my opponents, Sharron Angle and Congressman Heck, share Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda.
“As Nevada’s next Senator, and the first Latina Senator in American history, I will focus on solving problems like passing comprehensive immigration reform, ending the gender pay gap, creating good-paying jobs here in Nevada, and ensuring access to a quality and affordable education.”
